Triple Selection at Māoriland Film Festival 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Useful Media has been honoured with the selection of three of our projects to screen at the prestigious Māoriland Film Festival. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and passion of our team in producing impactful and thought-provoking content. We are immensely proud to present these projects to a wider audience and to contribute to the rich storytelling in Aotearoa.

Atuatanga - A VR Experience

11 am - 4 pm Thursday 21 - Sunday 24 March

Memorial Hall - Main Street, Ōtaki. Free entry (as capacity allows)

Atuatanga is an immersive experience like no other. Virtual reality guides you deep into a Māori world view, showing future destruction if we don’t take action now.

Using cutting edge technology from Meta Quest and the Unreal Engine, Atuatanga lets you see, hear and feel the journey of the Atua. Hand tracking, mobile and with 6 degrees of freedom, Atuatanga's intuitive game play allows you to bring about the change the world needs.

Atuatanga received funding from the Manatū Taonga Cultural Sector Innovation Fund, Creative New Zealand and the New Zealand Film Commission.

Te Reo Rangatira - Glenis Hiria Philip-Barbara - A Short Documentary

Koroki Koroka Session - 9:30 AM Friday March 22nd

Presented by Nepia Takuira-Mita, Te Reo Rangatira is a series that focuses on the revitalisation of the Māori language by following the journey of those who have risen to the challenge of learning Te Reo Māori as a second language. Glenis' te reo journey is whānau-based and has led to professional success in government roles. Glenis is writing a theatre play in te reo about her early experiences at school.
